What to Consider When Shopping for an LED Bar

What to Consider When Shopping for an LED Bar

Extra lighting can always be useful for a truck or off-road vehicle, which is why many drivers like to add an LED light bar. If you are looking into buying a light bar, there are many factors you need to take into consideration.

Light bars may all appear to be comparable in quality and functionality, but that is simply not the case. You'll want to do some careful research before purchasing an LED light bar and consider the following factors.

Size

Size is arguably one of the most important factors to consider when you are searching for a light bar. A larger light bar will have more bulbs and will probably be brighter than a smaller light bar.

But there are small light bars out there that can produce a lot of light. Light bars range in size from 4 inches to 50 inches. At the end of the day, though, the best size light bar is the one that fits your vehicle and budget.

Shape

The shape of a light bar is more a matter of personal preference than of performance. All you have to decide regarding the shape is whether you think a curved bar or a straight bar will look best on your vehicle.

Number of Rows

LED light bars generally come as single or double row light bars. With more bulbs, a double row light bar will probably produce the most light, but will usually cost a bit more. A single row light bar is useful for keeping a lower profile. In the end, you'll just have to decide which one you think looks the best.

Beam Pattern

LED Light bars will have a spot, flood or combination light beam pattern. Flood beams produce a wide array of light while spot beams produce a narrow array of light that goes a long distance.

Flood beams are useful for off-road driving because they can give you better visibility of obstacles to the side, and spot beams are preferred for on-road driving. Combination light beam patterns are very popular because they come with flood and spot beams that will function well for whatever driving situation you are in.

Light Color

You'll want to consider the types of driving you will be doing as you choose a color for your LED lights. Amber lights are awesome for foggy situations because the light won't bounce back at you. White lights are usually the most versatile for driving at night. Other colors like red, blue or green are mostly just for looks or to draw attention to the vehicle.

Water Resistance

Light bars are bound to get wet due to rain showers or splashes through mud puddles, so you need a light bar that is water resistant. IP ratings will tell you how water resistant a light bar is, with IP 68 and IP 69 being the best and most water resistant.
